Who is Hoodie Allen? Hoodie Allen is an independent hip-hop artist, singer, and rapper whose EP “All American” debuted at #10 on Billboard’s Top Albums and went to #1 on the iTunes charts within hours of its release in April 2012. This February, “FIFA” (feat. Chiddy Bang) rose to #2 on the iTunes chart for Hip-Hop/Rap songs, while popular hip hop magazine XXL premiered his music video “Cake Boy”, which jumped to #19 on the Hip-Hop/Rap chart. Hoodie Allen recently released his new mixtape Crew Cuts for free online before beginning his tour Cruisin’ USA, which has included venues like the House of Blues in Boston, and sold out shows across the country. Check out Crew Cuts and all of his latest videos on his YouTube channel with 43.5 million views – wearehoodie.
Who is Kap Slap? Kap Slap is the stage name of Jared Lucas, an up and coming EDM Mash-up Electronic DJ. He takes popular songs you all love and mixes them together with amazing beats in the back. If you like Super Smash Brothers, Swedish House Mafia, Krewella, or Avicii, you will LOVE DJ Kap Slap. He is constantly being booked by colleges and he always puts on a high-energy show. Popular music blog, “this song is sick” has this to say: “the perfect party soundtrack”, “features some of the top recent radio songs paired up with some of best hard hitting electronic tracks, creating completely new sounding tracks”, “among…the best ‘mashup artists’ out there”, “with all these seamless transitions between every part of every track, he really is a club friendly Girl Talk”. Colleges like BU and UVA have recently booked him, he’s kicking off Columbia Music Festival, performing at harbor City Fest with Alesso, and now he’s coming to St. A’s. His set is going to be awesome!
Why were Hoodie Allen and Kap Slap selected? Who books these artists? The show was booked and is being produced through the hard work of CAB’s Concert Committee. Interested in being a part of the committee? CAB is open to all students, join CAB and get involved!
Members of the committee have been working hard on this concert and they wanted to take a moment to reach out to students who may have questions or still be on the fence about buying tickets. They wanted to let you know that they looked into a large variety of artists across music genres, including many of the biggest names in the music industry right now. Some artists were too expensive, some weren’t available on the college’s available dates, and others weren’t touring or willing to perform college shows. There is a lot that goes into booking a concert, and the number one thing CAB wants is to give the student body a concert that everyone can enjoy. These artists were selected because the committee felt they’ll bring the campus the show that the majority of students are looking for.
For those students interested in the country music genre, CAB was able to find a great opportunity to bus students to see The Band Perry at Merrimack College on Friday, April 19th. Hoodie Allen was a popular write-in on the concert survey, he is expected to be the next rapper to blow up in the industry, and he’s been compared to Macklemore, with whom there have also been talks of collaboration on a song.
The combination of Hoodie Allen with Kap Slap guarantees a concert where everyone will have a good time and dance! The concert is intentionally booked in Sullivan Arena, so every student on campus can attend and have room to dance. CAB is so excited for April 25 to arrive and looks forward to seeing every St. A’s student in Sullivan Arena. The concert production company is going to make Sullivan Arena feel like a club. So get excited! Good music, cool lights, awesome beats, a floor featuring 2,000 St. A’s students. Buy your ticket already and start thinking about what you’re going to wear!
