SGA funds installation of campus water filters

Student Government Association is funding a new water filtration system, which will be installed in three different buildings on campus: Cushing, Alumni, and Carr center.

The filtration system is identical to the one already situated on the floors of Saint A’s newest dorm, the Living Learning Commons.

The filtration system is provided through individual water stations, which are set up for dispensing water.

The water stations incorporate advanced features like sensors, which activate once the water bottle is placed under the waterspout, and triggers the spout to stream water into the bottle.

No more wrestling to try and hold the button down on the water fountain and angling the water bottle towards the trajectory of the spouting water.

Now, just step up and let the station do the work. Once the water bottle is filled, simply remove it and the water automatically stops.

The filtration system also includes innovative and environmental features; by calculating how many reusable water bottles are being refilled at the station, this number can be compared with the amount of disposable water bottles being used on campus, which are much less healthy for the environment.

Mack Douglas, Vice President of SGA, has been coordinating with Amanda Viens, Residential Life Area Coordinator for the FBC housing, in a joint effort to install the new water stations.

The filtration system is another technique for endorsing clean, green and environment-friendly actions on campus.
