Saint Anselm College is currently searching for a candidate to fill the newly endowed Jean Chair in either the department of History or Politics

In an article in the fall 2015 issue of Portraits, Dr. Steven DiSalvo, president of the college, announced, that “Through a very generous $3.2 million gift from Joseph Jean ’53 we continue to develop an endowed chair in history and government.”

This is only the second endowed chair at Saint Anselm College. The first, the Richard L. Bready Professor of Ethics, Economics, and the Common Good, was endowed in 2005 by Richard Bready ‘65, a trustee.

The college posted a job offer for the Jean Chair on the website Vitae.com.

The post states “The committee encourages applications from historians working on U.S. political or constitutional history and from political scientists working on American political development in an area other than political institutions.”

This position is a full time tenure track position.

Professor Beth Salerno, professor of history, is the Chair of the Jean Chair Search Committee. She has invited three candidates for the Jean Chair to campus to present a lecture in their area of study. Salerno emailed Saint Anselm faculty and staff inviting them to all of these lectures and encouraging them to provide the Committee with feedback about the candidates.

The three candidates presented 45 minute long lectures on a subject of their choice after which they took questions from the audience of faculty, staff and students.

The candidate chosen for the Jean Chair will be announced on criernewsroom.com as soon as the decision is made.
