Maggie wins Senate: progress for the future

Like it or not, Maggie Hassan won the US Senate election. Like it or not, Donald J. Trump won the US Presidential election in a stunning upset to Hillary Clinton and her supporters. This election cycle has defied many political pundits’ predictions and poll numbers. New Hampshire, however, is a different story. Maggie Hassan and Kelly Ayotte both fought hard to win and campaigned even harder here in the Granite State. Since August I had worked on Maggie Hassan’s campaign as an intern and saw close up the strategy, ground game, and work that went into this incredibly close election and victory.

One reason I believe that Maggie won is the message she effectively communicated to people in New Hampshire. Maggie will bring the same economic growth strategy that made New Hampshire the #1 place for business and an unemployment rate of 2.6% to the Senate where she will fight for New Hampshire and growth across the United States. Furthermore, Maggie will work to strengthen the defense of the United States and fight to make cyber security a top priority to protect all Americans.

These components of her message were not the only factors that lead to her victory, as the Campaign’s ground game was superb.

Team Maggie worked to blanket the state with events, signs and opportunities for hard working Granite Staters to greet the Governor and to voice their concerns and questions. From Nashua to Pittsburg, NH the Governor worked New Hampshire’s retail politics route to greet voters and share her message for change in Washington.

I believe this was effective, as many Granite Staters understand how gridlocked Washington is and are simply tired of it. Maggie has proven an effective leader while dealing with two Republican majority legislative chambers in Concord, which demonstrates her ability to work across party lines to accomplish agenda items.

This piece would not be complete without lauding the campaign and work of Kelly Ayotte who contributed a lot to New Hampshire throughout her time in the US Senate.

The margin was close, but the victory was clear- Maggie was going to Washington to represent New Hampshire alongside fellow Democrat Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. When I heard the news that Maggie had won the day after Nov. 8 I was overcome with happiness and emotion after a grueling night and Hillary Clinton’s loss. I had contributed to the win and helped send Maggie to the United States Senate. I look forward to see what Maggie will be able to do for New Hampshire in Washington and I look forward to supporting Democrats in the future.
