Men’s basketball defeats Post, improves to 6-3 

Hawk men’s basketball went on the road and defeated Post University 91-55 on Dec. 30, improving to 6-3 on the season. It was a close game at halftime as the Hawks held a 36-30 lead over Post, however Saint Anselm came out strong in the second half, outscoring their opponent 55-25 in the half. Senior Chris Braley led the Saint Anselm offense with 23 points and 9 rebounds in the game. Junior Taylor Fortin added 19 points and 4 rebounds, and sophomore Tim Guers totaled 15 points and 9 rebounds in the contest. The Hawks will return to action for their first game of the 2017 at home on Wednesday, Jan. 4 against Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University.

Women’s basketball falls to NYIT, now 7-5

The Saint Anselm women’s basketball squad dropped a close game to NYIT by a 56-50 final score on Dec. 31. St. A’s held a slim 30-29 lead at halftime, but NYIT pulled away in the second half outscoring the Hawks 27-20. In the game for St. A’s, senior Candace Andrews checked in with 12 points and 5 rebounds, junior Clairee Putnam had 11 points and 2 rebounds, and freshman Kaila Duarte added 7 points and 12 rebounds. The loss snaps a three game winning streak for the Hawks. They’ll return to action for their first game of 2017 on Wednesday, Jan. 4 when they host Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University. It’ll be the first game of a basketball doubleheader on the Hilltop with Hawk men’s basketball taking on Pace in the second game.
