Emma Bishop and Brandon Pratt have been re-elected as student body president and vice president.  The Student Government Association election results were released Wednesday night via email.

Bishop is a junior who studies Politics and Criminal Justice.  Prior to running for president for the first time last year, she was the vice president of the Class of 2018.  She is also the captain of the Dance Team and is a NHIOP ambassador. Bishop says she is “experienced and ready to continue.”

Pratt, the vice president, is a junior who is studying Politics and Communications.  Prior to running for vice president last year, he was a sophomore Class Senator and worked with the Class Council on things such as fundraising and event coordination.  He is also a NHIOP ambassador and a member of the College Republicans.  Pratt wants to make sure that “all students feel welcome on the Hilltop.”

Their re-election campaign featured many online videos and an intense social media focus, featuring the slogan “Promises made, promises kept”.

During their first term, Bishop and Pratt worked to develop relationships with faculty and staff.  They also worked getting recycling in the Coffee Shop, getting access to printers in Davison Hall, sending out Thursday Threes surveys, and expanding SGA’s presence on social media.  Their plans this time around include working to get a student to be a representative on the Board of Trustees, expanding parking for students, getting longer mail center hours, and increasing handicap accessibility, and continuing to make sure more tuition money is allocated to things that directly benefit students.

Despite being involved in different activities and having different types of leadership experience, Bishop and Pratt believe they have the leadership qualities necessary to continue representing the student body.  The president is the official representative for the student body.  She can enforce and veto proposals from the Student Senate as well as recommend actions to the Student Senate.  She can also nominate student representatives for different boards as well as nominate SGA Executive Cabinet Members. The Student Body Vice President is the President of the Senate.  They appoint Senators to different committees within the Senate.

The losing ticket this year, Kelsey Kurtz and Phil Kendall, will have another chance to run next year when they are juniors.
