Francis Fraitzl

Saint Anselm Alum and former administrator Francis (Frank) Fraitzl passed away on March 22, 2017 in Bedford, New Hampshire at the age of 75 due to declining health.

Born in Manchester, New Hampshire on Sept. 23rd, 1941 to Francis X and Mary (Paul) Fraitzl, Frank attended Manchester West High School (Class of 1959), and graduated from Saint Anselm College as a part of the Class of 1964.

After graduating from Saint A’s, Frank returned for 36 years of service to the College, culminating in his retirement as Director of Financial Aid. He also served as the financial director of the college’s Knights of Columbus and was a founding member of the Saint Elizabeth Seton Knights of Columbus Council 12988.

Frank also founded St. Elizabeth Church where he also served as the first Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Parish Council, and a CCD teacher. As he raised his three sons he coached Little League baseball and is remembered as a diehard Yankees fan despite being surrounded by family and friends who were all Red Sox faithful.

Above all else, Frank will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who cherished time spent with his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Joyce (Hoffmann) Fraitzl, of Bedford; three sons, Francis X. Fraitzl III and his wife, Lisa, of Bedford, John Fraitzl and wife Dawna of Bedford, and Paul Fraitzl and wife Christina of Bedford; his grandchildren, Heidi, Hannah, Mackenzie, Madison, Morgan, Nikolaus, Ethan, Taylor, and Connor; his brother-in-law, Patrick Hoffmann, of Manchester; sister-in-law Muriel Boisjolie of Manchester; niece Jill Hoffmann; nephew Eric Hoffmann; and several cousins and dear friends.

Calling hours at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., corner of North St., will be Monday, March 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Anselm Abbey Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104; or to Home, Health & Hospice, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054.

Rev. Thomas G. Kass, C.S.V.

Rev. Thomas G. Kass, C.S.V., Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of English at Saint Anselm College, passed away at the age of 70 years old on March 13. Born in Chicago, IL, on Aug. 29, 1946 as the only child of Anthony and Eleanor (Baszhowske) Kass, Fr. Kass graduated from St. Patrick High School in Chicago in 1964 and professed his first vows as a Viatorian on September 1st, 1965. On May 29th, 1973, he professed his final vows and was ordained to the priesthood on September 1st, 1965 by Bishop Brian Hennesy, CR at Saint Hedwig Catholic Church in Chicago. Fr. Kass earned his M. Div. from Catholic Theological Union, Chicago.

After teaching English and Religion at local high schools and a community college, Father Kass earned a variety of degrees culminating in a Ph.D. in English Literature and Language from Loyola University in 1989. He became known for his many publications regarding the life, teachings, and works of Samuel Johnson, an English poet, essayist, moralist, literary critic, biographer, editor, and lexicographer.

In 1989, Fr. Kass became Assistant Professor of English at Saint Anselm College, Manchester, NH, and eventually served as the Associate Professor of English in 1996 before becoming Professor Emeritus of English upon his retirement. He then served the Viatorians as Director of Pre-Novices, Novices, Priestly Formation and Formation Team Chair from 2008-2015.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, March 18 at 9:30 a.m. in the Viatorian Province Center Chapel, 1212 E. Euclid Avenue, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL. Memorials may be sent to the Clerics of St. Viator, 1212 E.
