Elowitch chosen to travel to Israel for Maccabiah Games

The Maccabiah Games take place every four years and are the world’s largest Jewish athletic competition. Alexis Elowitch ’18 will travel to Israel this summer to represent the country. She is a junior forward from Portland, ME. The games will be held in July. They typically host 10,000 athletes and some 20,000 fans from over 80 countries. Elowitch is a forward on the Saint Anselm women’s soccer team, and she has scored 15 goals thus far over the course of her three seasons playing for the Hawks.

Seney resigns after 15 seasons as Hawk hockey head coach

Ed Seney has served as head coach of the Saint Anselm men’s ice hockey team for the past 15 years. In total, he has coached college hockey for over 36 years. On the Hilltop, he led the Hawks to over 200 wins, eight Northeast-10 Conference regular season titles, and seven Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Championships. This past season, he was named Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career. Seney’s 371 career wins as a coach ranks in the top-20 all-time among NCAA Division II and III head coaches. Larry Rocha ’79, the Hawks’ current assistant coach, will serve as interim head coach.

Women’s ice hockey wins NEHC Open Championship

Hawk women’s ice hockey won the New England Hockey Conference Open Championship on Feb. 26 after defeating Holy Cross 3-2 in overtime. Sophomore Maura Kieft scored the game winning goal for Saint Anselm on a power play at 10:05 into overtime. She was assisted by sophomore Sara McNamara. Junior Kaitlyn Spillane and senior captain Victoria Shea scored the other two Hawk goals. With the win, Saint Anselm finished the 2016-17 season with a 22-2-3 record, having not lost a game since Jan. 11.

Men’s ski team finishes 5th in national championship

            The Hawks traveled to Mount Bachelor, OR to take part in USCSA National Championships. Senior Alex Gowen and Junior Benji Page took fifth place in the slalom on March 8 and earned All-American honors. On March 10, the Hawks placed seventh in the giant slalom. Alex Gowen and Benji Page along with senior Stephen McLeod were the top three finishers for Saint Anselm. This was just the second time the Hawks appeared in the national championship and the first time since 2013.
