A topic that has been hotly debated and uncertain around campus is the college’s budget and the future of certain academic programs. As SGA leaders, the bridge between students and administration must be strong.
Michael Hanna spoke on behalf of his ticket, emphasizing the importance of their website. “Our number one priority is having this website be a place where students can go, write concerns, voice opinions, and express what they want to see from us.”
Molly Timberlake shared a similar sentiment, noting that this is one way their administration would bolster student body communication and stay in touch with concerns on issues such as budget cuts. “It’s really important for Mike and I to do everything in our power to put students first through this website,” she said.
Vice President Diego Benites noted the accomplishments of their administration, including a town hall forum with President Favazza, the Campus Climate Survey, and appointing students to different committees throughout the college. “I served on the curriculum committee since my freshman year where we reviewed the different major proposals, classes, and class policies,” he said.
Aidan Carroll addresses the problem by explaining how his administration’s use of Instagram will allow him to connect to the student body and their concerns about the future of the college. “As president, I would make sure that I always hold office hours where students can come up to me and ask questions and express concerns,” he added.
The student concerns about the budget continue to be a major talking point on campus with many students unsure of what will happen to the college’s academic instruction. Members of SGA, as well as the student body at large, have said that they are looking for answers that will uphold the Benedictine values of the college.
