As the new semesters begins to unfold the Student Government Association here at Saint Anselm College is already hard at work making changes to help better the Saint Anselm community. The first ever Anselmian Winter Ball was completed, a committee is working on the possibility of new dorm, a blood drive was held in honor of George Gendron, $100 was raised to help the Sandy Hook community, and resolutions for the fiscal cliff and gun laws have been submitted. As the Semester progresses look for changes in these areas as well as other facets of Anselmian life.
The First ever Anselmian Winter Ball was held on Saturday, January 26th. The ball was a huge success with over 660 Anselmians and guests in attendance. The Alumni Office and Davison served free refreshments, and a professional photographer supplied attendees with free photographs. This ball will hopefully become one of many new traditions being set forth for Anselmians to enjoy for years to come.
Committees have been working on hammering out details about the possibility of a new dorm. The committees are working to help house more Anselmians than ever before. As our community grows we would like to be able to house new members and welcome them with open arms.
A blood drive was held in honor of George Gendron, the beloved custodian of the Cushing Student Center who passed away in the spring of 2011. This was the second blood drive of the year. Many Anselmians came out to donate and the drive was very successful. The Sandy Hook Drive raised over $100. A candle light vigil was held to remember those who were lost and severely affected by this tragedy. Many students contributed and participated in this beautiful commemorative event.
Student Body President, Lyndsay Robinson, has been working with elected officials in Washington, DC to solve the fiscal cliff and find a solution to the gun laws issues. As politicians bicker back and forth about the issues, student presidents from across the country have worked together from many different backgrounds calling for unity and solutions. Robinson was one of the driving forces behind both the fiscal cliff and gun laws resolution.
Even though the semester has just barely begun the student government association has picked off right where it left off at the end of last semester and has begun work on a plethora of plans to enhance the lives of the members of the Saint Anselm College community. The student government would like to remind your that if you have any questions, ideas or suggestions to please email [email protected] your speak to any member of the Student Government Association.
