Over Spring Break, members of the class “Discovering Business Abroad: Developing Markets” travelled to Panama in order to gain firsthand experience of what they were being taught in the classroom. Fourteen students, accompanied by Professor Marieke Martin, gave students several opportunities to discover the economy of Panama; they spent time at Panama’s national bank, stock exchange, El Rey Supermarket, and real estate company Bern Hotels and Resorts. The students spent the semester studying and discussing how different factors affected the Panama government, such as culture, and politics. Now that the trip is over, the class will spend the rest of the semester discussing their trip and completing a research project on an aspect of business in Panama.
