Now that it is mid-March, the Robinson/O’Halloran administration has come to an end. It seems like it flew by, and it is hard to believe that it is all over. As we look back on the past year, we are happy with all that we accomplished.
We ran on the platform of building school spirit and unity as well as promoting community service; I think it is safe to say that we accomplished that. Out of all the things we have done this past year, Shaun and I both agree that our 9/11 Day of Service and Week of Remembrance was our favorite accomplishment. It was truly humbling to see faculty, staff, administrators and students come together to reflect on a tragic event, but also to move forward by loving and giving to all.
From our trip to the United States Military Academy, we were inspired to create an Anselmian Code. It has been approved and now Student Government must find ways to implement it for all future Anselmian generations to live by. We did extensive research for a new dormitory on campus; both Shaun and I are happy that there will be a new dorm on campus to ensure comfortable living for students to come.
We hosted the first ever Anselmian Winter Ball, which will hopefully be a tradition that all Anselmians can be a part of. There was a record turnout of students for the first school wide dance which makes me think that there will be many more to come. We also did a lot of little things on campus including helping to increase school spirit at sporting events. We also created an Anselmian Pride Student Scholarship in honor of Abbot Matthew Leavy. The recipients for the 2012-2013 academic year were Joseph Tucker Mullin ’13, Brandon Early ’14, Dao Le ’15, and Smirti Hoda ’16. These students truly exemplify what it means to be an Anselmian.
I think the reason we were able to accomplish so much was because students were constantly sharing their ideas and concerns. We could not have done all that we did this past year without the wonderful student body that we were so blessed to serve. For example, students approached us over break and asked us to do something for the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy. With the support of many students, we raised money, held a candle light vigil, and sent over 150 angels to Newtown.
Shaun and I also had an amazing executive board and student senate. There was always constant discussion around the senate table that helped better this institution. Shaun and I are so grateful for the dedication of SGA members from every grade.
We also so very thankful for the support we received from the administration; they helped us accomplish all of our dreams. Sometimes when our ideas seemed too unrealistic for our campus, the administration was always there to help us make it work. Do not get me wrong, we ran into our roadblocks, but our experience as SGA President and Vice President is something that we will take with us forever. Thank you, Anselmians, for allowing us to serve you this past year!
