In light of the recent Boston Marathon tragedy, Saint Anselm College is doing what they do best—coming together as a community to help make a difference. Many events have been planned to help raise money for One Fund. Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Tom Menino created One Fund. The foundation was established to help the people most affected by the tragic events that occurred on April 15, 2013.
After tragedies take place, there are often many places that people can donate money to; however, Massachusetts officials wanted to create one centralized donation place. Governor Patrick shared, “I am humbled by the outpouring of support by the business community and individuals who are united in their desire to help; The One Fund Boston will act as a central fund to receive much needed financial support.”
As these attacks felt so close to home, many Anselmians, current students and Alumni, suggested different ways to raise money and support One Fund. “Boston Strong” bracelets were on sale as well as “Anselmians are Boston Strong” t-shirts. People from the greater Manchester community even helped supported the causes on campus. Alex Puglisi ‘11, owner of Café la Reine in downtown Manchester, is also partnering up with Saint Anselm College to help sell the bracelets to the Manchester community.
On Friday, Dining Services, the Alumni office, and Class of 2014, sponsored a Beantown Style pub night to enjoy a fun night with great entertainment while raising money for One Fund. With free pizza, there were also raffle prize giveaways including a Sam Adams BBQ grill, a cooler, a bocce set, a set of Fisher Cat tickets, gift cards, and two tickets to a Red Sox game.
On Saturday, the Red Key Society put on a car wash at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics from 10 am to 1 pm. Car washes by the Red Key’s themselves were only $5.00 and all of the money went directly to One Fund.
The fundraisers are not over yet so the Anselmian community will be sending a great deal of money to the One Fund Foundation. As Mayor Menino stated, “We are one Boston. We are one community. As always, we will come together to help those in need”. Saint Anselm College has gone above and beyond in being Boston Strong, but we are Anselmian Strong first!
