Guests filled the pub October 16 for a special pub night with Dr. Steven DiSalvo, the college’s new president, one of many of the pre-inauguration festivities available to students during the week before the big ceremony.
Students and faculty had an opportunity to mingle for a while before DiSalvo arrived, much of the conversation revolving around the inauguration activities for the upcoming days. The coffee shop staff served a buffet of calzones, pretzels, buffalo chicken dip, and other snacks, and many enjoyed a “Cape Codder,” the favorite drink of DiSalvo.
Students were excited for the opportunity to chat with DiSalvo when he arrived, barely giving him a chance to sit down at a table before beginning a conversation at another.
“I appreciate that the President took the time to visit with students, and he has continuously demonstrated a willingness to do so with other student groups on campus thus far,” John Pearson, ’14, said. “Dr. DiSalvo’s commitment to learning more about students bodes well for the college.
Everyone at the event was impressed by DiSalvo’s effort to make it to the event, even after a long day. DiSalvo had attended the wake of Daniel Breen earlier that afternoon, and came to the coffee shop after a long drive back from Quincy, MA. Lyndsay Robinson, ’14, attributed this to DiSalvo’s enthusiasm for being around the students.
“Dr. DiSalvo loves being with the students and he continues to show us that,” Robinson said. “With a very busy schedule that week, he managed to still fit us in despite travelling back from Boston where he paid respects for Dan Breen’s wake. He continues to amaze me every day!”
Also in attendance at the event were past President Fr. Jonathan DeFelice, O.S.B., Vice President for Student Affairs Joe Horton, Prof. Gary Bouchard, and many other members of the facult
