‘Anselmians for Light’: Nov. 2 prayer for solidarity
October 28, 2014
Saint Anselm College is starting a new celebration, entitled “Anselmian’s for Light, an All Souls Celebration,” on November 2nd, at 7 pm,
All Anselmians are invited to gather in the Abbey for a mass in celebration of All Souls Day.
There will be luminara bags with the names and symbols of lost loved ones.
This celebration was thought up by Abbot Matthew, O.S.B. after he was inspired by all of the students praying around the luminaria for Relay for Life.
“I was so impressed by seeing 800 of our students walking around the luminaria praying in silence,” said Abbot Matthew.
This led him to ask, “Why can’t we do that in the church on All Souls Day, and gather the campus community to pray?”
Since Abbot Matthew has been working in Campus Ministry, he has been able to organize this event, and if it goes well and is well received by the campus, it will hopefully be a continuing tradition for years to come.
For students who are interested in participating by making a bag for a loved one, they are available at Davison, The Abbey Church and Campus Ministry.
Once the bag has been decorated, it is placed into the designated box. The yellow slips in the bags are meant to be kept for participants to remember their bag number if they wish to keep it after the celebration.
If there are any further questions please contact the Campus Ministry.
