The show must go on! The blizzard of 2013 could not stop the Abbey Players from performing three amazing shows this past weekend. The three short plays provided the scarce audience with nothing but perfection. The cast members remained dedicated to their passions and left everything on the stage.
The Abbey Players illustrated pure love for theater; a show has never been cancelled and the Players refused to start now. Though the weather may have been discouraging, the cast and crew set the stage, hit the lights, and did one the thing they love; performed.
Each member of the cast continuously got themselves into character as the directors and crew remained positive. People’s spirits were up and the energy levels were high.
As the production weekend came to an end, the Abbeys take time on the last performance night to reflect on their experiences. Seniors, in particular, give their last words of wisdom to the underclassmen as they finish their time with the Abbeys.
This time around a very good point was made. Many people refer to the Abbey Players as a family but another perspective was presented to the group; the players are a company. Families are obligated to respect one another and be supportive when times are rough. As a company; no one is required to come to production night and perform; no one is required to make lasting friendships. It is an individual decision to show up, get into character, and perform. This sensational group of people are able to come together and support one another without obligation; that is more powerful than family. Another senior said, “Passion is a combination of anger and love.” As a performer, talents, worries, and anxiety can all be left on the stage. The stage is a sanctuary of the Abbey Players; it gives people the confidence to be something they are not or desire to be. Actors can lose themselves in their roles and crew members can self-praise themselves for their amazing sets; there is no limit.
The casts all rose to the occasion. The snow was an unfortunate element in the size of the audience but the performances did not weaken. Each every member of the Abbey Players truly left their hearts and souls on the stage; everyone was able to shine! This group of people definitely provides a perfect example of what a family really should be.
