Housing lottery can always be a stressful time for students who are looking to live on campus. People constantly inquire about who got which number and what average is the best and what average is the worst. Everyone desires on-campus housing and more importantly, in the dormitory that he or she wants.
After freshman year, the excitement of living in a coed dorm or with close friends is ever prevalent. Students typically wish to live in the same vicinity as their friends and receive the desired dorm location. Unfortunately, there have been many instances where the school is unable to give students a definite location for on-campus living. Many students must wait until mid-summer for information on their particular housing situation.
More so, there has been disappointment among students who do not receive their preferred dorm location. For example, many sophomore girls must live in Baroody, a freshman dorm, rather than residing in Bertrand or Brady with the rest of their classmates. This issue will soon be resolved at Saint A’s.
Many students have been asking, “why not build more housing?” That’s the exact plan that Saint Anselm College has in mind. The college plans to start building a new dormitory on campus. This particular dorm will be located near the sophomore dormitories, located next to the gymnasium and Cushing. It will be available for students going into their second year of school and provide a much smoother housing lottery in the years to come.
This expansion will allow more students, specifically sophomores, to have more options for housing and more space. This will help prevent forced-triples and allow the class to stay together in once location rather then being spread out on campus. This provides convenience to all students who are looking for a permanent residence at the school.
A new dormitory is never a bad idea in regards to providing students with updated housing. This edition will allow students an easier transition into the next year when moving onto campus. There will be less confusion with the housing lottery and provide students with more options. Offering more opportunities to all is always a positive thing and a good goal St. A’s should strive for.
