Family weekend, a chance for students to see their families and show them around the home they have created since moving in to Saint A’s about two months ago; sounds great right? In theory and in most cases, absolutely.
But if you look in to the details of the weekend, almost every event the college advertises costs money. Money is largest hurdle when it comes to college.
The “Tuition and Financial Aid” page of our school website provides the total cost of the current school year for on campus students.
Tuition is $32,084, Room and Board is $12,690, and Mandatory fees are $1,550. This makes the grand total forty eight thousand three hundred and twenty four dollars.
Each particular student pays a different overall amount because of scholarships, grants, and financial aid but regardless; it is a great deal of money.
Now, there are some people who pay their own way through college but for the majority of students in the United States, parents or guardians pick up at least some of the hefty check.
Rising loan interest rates as well as rising college costs plague the most recent crop of college students and graduates.
As we all are undoubtedly aware of, the financial state of the country is slowly improving but is still on shaky grounds. Where does this leave us you ask?
Debt ridden. But, it’s the world we live in and we are getting a pretty excellent education for the cost. A college education is needed in such a competitive country and with it our lives will improve greatly.
Many studies have proven this over the years and it is basically engraved into out minds; college equals a job, and a job equals a good life.
Now, after examining all off this, our families still have to pay to spend a weekend with us at our beloved school? Well yes. It costs quite a bit of money to put on all of the events that our school graciously sponsors as well as the performers brought to campus for the weekend.
And we cannot forget the hard work our Davison staff puts in to all the meals of the weekend and especially the big Sunday Brunch.
We cannot simply blame the college itself for all of the costs and the rising rates everyone in this country has to deal with; most of it is just because of the way things work today.
It would be nice if our families did not have to pay to come see us but there has to be a way to pay all of the people at the school who put on such a wonderful few days.
Everyone is still enjoying such a wonderful family weekend and life could not be better on the hilltop, regardless of how much it may have cost.
