After a strong 8-1 start last season, the Saint Anselm Men’s Lacrosse team limped through the 2012 campaign finishing with a final overall record of 8-7. However, with last year’s strong start, there is reason for optimism in 2013 as the team is looking forward to beginning this season in style.
“The squad this year is led by a star-studded offense and a poised defense,” says junior midfielder Ryan Mee. “The team has high expectations to bring the dish home to the Hawks nest at the end of the season.”
The Hawks have a right to be confident as they return the majority of their roster from last season losing only a total of seven seniors. Also, the team’s top three scorers from a year ago—Andrew Messner, Ryan Mee, and Geoff Kennedy—all return to the field looking to top their contributions from a year ago.
Defensively, Saint Anselm brings back a strong unit led by senior goaltender Jonathon O’Reilly. With a good mix of young players combined with a multitude of seasoned veterans, lacrosse fans should expect a strong effort from the team this season. Saint Anselm opens up the year at home against NYIT on March 6th.
