New head coach Saint A’s and soccer team alum
On Friday, November 8, Interim Athletics Director Jo-Ann Nester announced that Christian Gagnon has been promoted from interim head coach of the Men’s soccer team to simply head coach.
After Peter Ramsay’s step down in early October as head coach, Gagnon took over, as he has been an assistant coach since 2005.
Prior to that, he played during his college career here at Saint A’s from 1995-1998.
This should make the transition over to head coach simple for him.
In the announcement, Gagnon made several comments; “As a former player at Saint Anselm, I am personally committed to the challenge of building this team up. This is a relatively young team with plenty of potential for future success. It will be exciting to set up a new system and see this group respond…We will build a structured, competitive and entertaining brand of play. In the end, we will compete and win, both on the field and in the classroom, and attract the attention of our competitors and fans.”
Jo-Ann Nester similarly has hopes for the program’s progress under Christian Gagnon , saying in her announcement that “Christian has had a long history with the Saint Anselm’s men’s soccer program, having played here, served as the assistant coach, and then stepped in as the interim head coach. We know Christian is the best person to take the helm of this program and I am very confident that he will lead our student-athletes with integrity and enthusiasm. “
The men’s soccer team finished their season on the 1st, losing against American International.
