It’s that thrilling time of year again – college football season is upon us and the Hawks are eager to hit the turf this upcoming season. This past Saturday, September 7, the Hawks kicked off the 25th season at NCAA Division I Sacred Heart University which resulted in a 3-10 loss for the Hawks. This makes it the second time meeting between Saint Anselm and Sacred Heart when the Hawks lost 19-43 back in September of 2015. This does not mean they will give up as the Hawks defense stood their ground allowing just 3.6 yds per play.
The Hawks finished the 2023 season in second in the NE10 Conference with a 6-4 overall record and 5-2 conference record. Alongside the program’s best finish in history, Head Coach Joe Adam received the honor of being named the NE10 Coach of the Year, who can hopefully bring the Hawks through another stellar season with his ninth season as Head Coach.
The pre-season is always a time of anticipation for football fans and players. The Saint Anselm Hawks signed 28 freshmen for this upcoming season and recently acquired Senior Zach Wilson. The men of the Saint Anselm Football team entered their pre-season officially on August 14. On August 13, the Northeast-10 Conference officially released the Preseason Coaches’ Poll placing Saint Anselm College in the fourth place slot.
Ahead of the 2024 season, Saint Anselm Football named four captains on August 29. The team voted and named Seniors Jack Desmond of Weymouth, Massachusetts, two-time captain Will Klein of Abington, Massachusetts, Brandon Potts of Bowie, Maryland, and fifth-year Alejandro Santiago of Woodbridge, New Jersey. Klein was second on the team, having the most tackles of 35. Desmond, Potts, and Sanitago are also key team members who have put in great efforts the past season with tackles, recovered fumbles, and interceptions. The four captains look to guide their team through the 2024 season and bring them to many more victories.
The Hawks go head to head with eight more teams this season, five of those being at home. Those home games include Saturday, September 28, against Southern Connecticut State. October 5, the Hawks will face the Division II Post University Eagles at the Homecoming Game. They will end the regular season on Saturday, November 16, against Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts. They also go against Assumption University on October 19, and New Haven on November 9.
The Hawks bring it to their home turf on Saturday, September 14 against ,Bentley University at Grappone Stadium for a 1:00 pm kickoff. Bentley and Saint Anselm both have a great program with a strong coaching staff. The Hawks look forward to playing against Bentley as it will be a game of who is the strongest on the field and who wants it more. So pop out and support your fellow Hawks ring in a new season.
