I’m going to be blunt and honest for a second. I hate fantasy football this season. I am in several leagues this season and all of which are a collective 1-11 across all 4 leagues. I wish I was kidding. One league I have Brian Thomas Jr. who had a fantastic season last year with Jacksonville. With the addition of offensive guru Liam Coen as the new head coach I thought BTJ would be a cheat code. That simply is not the case. He refuses to play which is so bizarre in comparison to last year. In one of my other leagues I have both Ladd McConkey and Malik Nabers. McConkey is playing great but he is doing all the stuff one doesn’t get scored on in fantasy football and as for Malik Nabers his quarterback Russell Wilson has been a bigger shell of himself than he was in Denver. While I got one great game from Nabers, he has been a nonfactor in the others because Russ doesn’t know how to freaking “cook” anymore. Then we get into the other 2 leagues. For starters in both of them, I have Derrick Henry. He is without a doubt still one of the best Running Backs in the NFL, like not even close. But I swear if he fumbles one more damn time I am going to break my TV. Now for the two true kickers. In my final league I drafted Joe Burrow as my QB in 2 leagues (not sorry about that). While to everyone that is a good pick with all the upside in the world, I chose to ignore the swiss cheese offensive line he has. That bit me in the back 2 weeks ago as he is now out for likely the rest of the regular season with a toe injury. I am now stuck with Kyler Murray in one league and Caleb Williams in another. I can’t trust Kyler Murray once the next Call of Duty game comes out because he goes in the tank EVERY YEAR. You can look it up he statistically gets bad the minute a new COD game comes out because he is chronically playing it. Caleb Williams may be my saving grace in the lague I have him in. He recently showed what he can do in a Ben Johnson offense against Dallas, throwing 4 TDs and nearly 300 yards passing.. My only reservation with Williams is that he really hasn’t shown much else in his first bit of his career. While he has shown flashes that he could be an elite QB in this league, he has plenty of moments where you really have to scratch your head. Every week its like the city of Chicago holds their breath of “which Caleb Williams shows up. The Prodigy? Or the cry baby that doesn’t want to be there because he is losing.” These are legitimate concerns for this player even in a fantasy sense. He will have weeks wherer he seems to be improving and can be an anchor for a fantasy team. But at the same time he is unplayable. It is a true dilemma my teams are in. Lastly, I drafted a player who is nothing short of a touchdown machine in the last few years without any doubt if you looked at the numbers. Him and Derrick Henry were to carry my backfield along with Joe Burrow (that’s right this is the other team he is on). That other Running Back was James Conner, who is done for the season with an ankle injury that some insiders are saying could be career ending. So in a span of 2 weeks I lost my QB and my starting RB in heartbreaking fashion. Absolutely brutal 2 weeks for me in fantasy football. You would think that would be it. NOPE. This is the price I pay when doing a fantasy league with my friends. I have been nothing but ripped for the past few days because I am just simply in no position to climb out of this hole I have dug myself. Fantasy football has been often kind to me over the last 10 years. I’ve always had consistently good teams and have won a few championships along the way (not to brag). But I need to accept the fact that I am in prime position to be given not one last place punishment, but upwards to three depending on what the other leagues determine. The funny thing about this whole ordeal is that after drafting, I had a top 5 draft according to the apps we were drafting on across all 4 leagues. Like I legitimately had all the expectations to do well but instead the injury bug hit not just one of my teams, not two, not three, all four of them. The takeaway here is that you can’t take success for granted people, or you could end up 1-11 across 4 leagues with no sign of hope. That’s The Take.
