SGA resolutions address campus recycling, facility maintenance, Davison renovations

Faster repairs for washers, dryers, and exercise equipment, as well as more recycling bins on campus are just some of the goals SGA has identified this year to address the needs of students and improve student living.

Daniel Bartley, the Secretary of Internal Procedures for SGA, says five resolutions were passed between last March and now.

The first resolution passed was to label food in Davison more thoroughly to accommodate for people with allergies or who abstain from certain foods for religious reasons.

The second resolution passed was to ensure washers and dryers in the dormitories are fixed within 48-72 hours.

The third resolution was to place recycling bins in the coffee shop.

The fourth was to mandate that exercise equipment in the Carr center is properly maintained or fixed within 48-72 hours after a reported malfunction.

The final resolution was to pave the area in front of the Davison entrance and place tables and chairs so students can eat outside in warm weather.

The system for passing each resolution is a process that takes several weeks.

Any senator within SGA can propose a resolution that he or she thinks will address the wants or needs of the student body, especially in relation to housing, dining, and other aspects of student living.

After developing the idea, the senator with the proposal works with Bartley to make sure the resolution is in accordance with SGA and Saint Anselm’s regulations.

Bartley says his role is to make sure that the “Legislation brought forward fits with the constitution and the school rules.”

Once the resolution is written up, it is put on the agenda for the next SGA meeting under “New Business” and the senator presents the resolution to fellow SGA members.

The senator has the following week to incorporate the feedback and make whatever changes are necessary.

The final version is given the following week, where the members vote whether to pass it or not.

If it is passed, David McKillop, Student Body President, and Mackenzie Douglas, Student Body Vice President, bring the resolution to administration.

This year, every resolution that was presented was passed within SGA.
