Goffstown Police Department responds to couch burning

Susan Donahue, News Editor

According to a Goffstown Police Department report from April 1, two officers were dispatched to Saint Anselm College for a report of a structure fire. They found a “smoldering couch” in the snow behind building B and C in Father Bernard Court, commonly known as Uppers. The Goffstown Fire Department was also called to the scene and were seen covering the remaining pieces of furniture with snow.

There were so few pieces of the furniture left it was unclear as to whether the piece of furniture was private property or owned by Saint Anselm College. The Goffstown Fire Department and Saint Anselm Residential Life Staff searched apartments and were unable to identify any missing furniture.

Goffstown Police Officers followed up on a lead of a student suspected to have set the furniture on fire. According to the Goffstown Police Report there was not enough evidence leading to a suspect so no disciplinary action has been taken.

Associate Dean of Students Andrew S. Litz declined to comment because this is an “active Criminal Mischief investigation”.
