Recently, the CAB program attended the NACA conference in Hartford, Connecticut, where a few selected representatives from Saint Anselm College, as well as many other northeastern colleges, had the opportunity to rather new ideas for activities and events for the future.
At the conference, these students were able to talk with other schools and get ideas from them in regards to planning, ensuring interest in the program, and promoting school spirit. There were also educational sessions, in which the representatives could discuss budget planning and maintaining school spirit.
Juliette Noonan, chair of promotions of CAB, had this to say: “I went to sessions that focused on effective ways to promote events and increase attendance. During these sessions, we are able to talk with students from other schools and see what works or doesn’t work for them. We have heard some really cool things other schools do and we may try to bring them to our school.”
Student also met with various performers to see if some would be interested in coming to campus.
“We booked a few acts and we are really excited for next semester. In January our first NACA performer will be coming, a magician who is hilarious and has been on a lot of night shows, like Conan O’Brien. We would not be able to afford these guys if not for NACA so we are extremely fortunate that we are able to go,” says Martha Lombard, chair of CAB.
Representatives also participated in a “school swap”, where schools traded things they give out at their events for what other school give out at their events, such as t-shirts and giveaways.
“I have to say, all the other schools love our t-shirts,” Noonan remarks. Speaking of t-shirts, she also mentioned that the shirts can now be ordered with free shipping and setup/design fees, meaning more shirts in the future!
In the meantime, what is coming up with Christmas for CAB this year? For starters, there is Christmas Cabingo on Tuesday December 4 at 8pm in the Dana Center, where prizes are wrapped and the winners must open them on stage in front of those who attend.
“It’s a really fun event, one of my favorites,” says Lombard. The other event, Christmas with CAB, is occurring on Thursday December 6 from 12-4 in Cushing, which is “A Christmas Story” themed this year. There will be long sleeve shirts and stuff-a-bear, as well as plenty of food. Santa will make an appearance to hand out shirts and take some pictures too!
