Meelia Center aims to benefit local family with tournament

The Meelia Center will be hosting its 22nd wiffle ball tournament for charity in the Carr Center on October 18th at 10 a.m., where teams of ten will compete while raising money for the Suter Sisters and their six adopted children.

Each of the six children has some form of special needs, and one requires the use of an oxygen tank.

Recently, their house burned down due to a sudden electrical fire, and while no one was hurt, the child’s oxygen tank exploded and caused severe damage to the house.

With the house gone, the sisters and their children have been forced to move around from place to place with very few belongings.

The Meelia Center is hosting the tournament to raise funds for the sisters in order to help alleviate their financial burden.

Each year, the tournament benefits a different family or cause from the local area, with last year’s tournament raising $2,000 for another family in need.

For students interested in forming a team, there are registration packets in the Meelia Center, as well as on the advertisement board in Cushing.

Each team must consist of ten members and donate $100 to the event.

If students want to participate but are unable to pay, teams can get a sponsor. The sponsor can pay the $100, and the Meelia Center will advertise for the sponsor’s business during the event.

The Meelia Center is hoping to raise a substantial ammount; anyone interested in forming a team should fill out a packet, or go speak with one of their volunteer.
