Saint Anselm College has decided to relocate the main entrance to College Road, a return to its original placement.

President DiSalvo recently revealed to the Anselmian community that Dr. and Mrs. Paul J. McNeil, Saint Anselm College alumni from the Class of 1946, have generously donated to the College to allow for all this construction to be done to the entrances and the Alumni Quad. The new entrance will be named “Dr. Paul J. McNeil ’46 College Entrance” in their honor.

As part of the construction of the new main entrance, the college has also decided to add new sidewalks that extend from Alumni Hall to Hilary Hall. This addition was due to safety concerns with pedestrians walking alongside vehicle traffic.

For many years, the main entrance of Saint Anselm College was the road that leads up past the Abbey Church and the side of the Giesel Library. According to Dr. Steven R. DiSalvo, College President, the change is being made because visitors do not get to see the full beauty of the campus and Alumni Hall when entering.

Previously, College Road had been used as a one-way exit past Poisson Hall and Hilary Hall onto Saint Anselm Drive. Now it will become a one-way entrance onto Campus.

President DiSalvo says the reconstruction has not been finished yet and will take some time to complete; construction should be finished by the end of September or the beginning of October. Until the construction is done and all the proper signage is installed, the road that leads up to Abbey Church can still be used as an entrance. Once the transformation is complete, College Road will no longer be used as an exit.

Once the new entrance is finished, the current main entrance will be closed off from traffic and only opened for special events and for entrance to the monastery parking lot.
