More than 18 presumed dead, dozens injured after shooting in Lewiston, Maine

LEWISTON MAINE – Police in Maine have confirmed at least 18 people are dead and dozens more are injured after a shooting in Lewiston on Wednesday evening. Hundreds of law enforcement personnel throughout the State and across New England were dispatched.

Lewiston Police are searching for 40-year-old- Robert Card who has been labeled as a person of interest in the case. His white Subaru hatchback was found in Lisbon a town away.

According to ABC, the suspect opened fired at the Spare Time Bowling Alley on Mollinson Way at around 7:15pm. At around 8:00pm, reports of a second shooting at the Schmeges Bar and Grill on Lincoln Street were recorded. In addition, a Walmart distribution center on Goddard Road is under investigation; there were no reported shots fired.

New Hampshire State Police and Boston’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to the situation.

The FBI was also involved, releasing the following statement that night: “The FBI Boston Division continues to coordinate with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners in Maine and we stand ready to assist with any available resources they need, including evidence response, investigative and tactical support, as well as victim assistance. We continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any and all suspicious activity and/or individuals to law enforcement immediately. As this situation is still very fluid, we have no further comment at this time and will refer you to the Maine State Police.”

President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation.

Medical recourses in Maine are Maine Medical Center says they’re responding to a “mass casualty event.”

The town of Lewiston has issued a shelter in place order and businesses have been asked to close. The school district announced the closing of all schools as well as surrounding districts.

Medical helicopters from different agencies have been dispatched to Lewiston, including helicopters from “Boston Medflight.”
