I would like to express my
thanks to John and Kellan for
their thoughts on the causes of
and potential solutions to the
rather dysfunctional behavior
that our leaders have been getting
up to lately. We would be wise to
keep these things in mind, as the
underlying problem doesn’t seem
to be sorted yet.
However, I would also like to
express my thanks to this state’s
Senate delegation, and those who
joined them, for helping to bring
us a return to order in time for
Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Despite the roles here being
more complex, and the rottenness
more broadly distributed among
them, I find this case somewhat
reminiscent of Solomon’s mater-
nity test. Through their actions
earlier this week, Jeanne Shaheen
and Maggie Hassan have shown
themselves as true mothers of the
American people.
They have placed the good of
the whole country first, and while
not abandoning the platforms
on which they were elected, they
have placed those partisan matters
second. I find that highly admira-
ble.
I’m generally not one for writ-
ing to my representatives, but
especially in light of the disap-
proval these two have been receiv-
ing from within their party, I think
that those of us who live in New
Hampshire and who appreciate
what they’ve done would do well
to send some kind words their
