Students: make the most of your time on the Hilltop

Hard to believe that September is already here, and that a new school year has begun. For many, it probably seems like just yesterday that summer was upon us and now we find ourselves back into the swing of things here on the Hilltop. For some students reading this editorial, the journey here at St. A’s has just begun, while others find themselves nearing the end. Keeping in mind how quickly four years of college can come and go, you want to make sure that you make the most of this experience while it lasts.

One way to do that is to get involved. This school provides its students with lots of amazing opportunities, and in order to truly get your money’s worth, you need to take advantage of all that this place has to offer.

There are a number of fantastic organizations for people to get involved with here at St. A’s. With over 60 different extracurricular clubs on campus, there is something for everyone. Check your email on a daily basis. Freshmen, any upperclassman can tell you to expect to get about 50 emails a day. A decent chunk of those are about many of the different clubs/activities students can get involved in. Branch out now while you have the chance, down the road you may regret it if you don’t.

There are also a large number of different events that are hosted right here on campus. For example, students have the ability to experience the world of politics by attending some of the many functions hosted by the New Hampshire Institute of Politics. The NHIOP is one of the things that makes St. A’s unique compared to other colleges and universities. There are not many other four year institutions across the country where you have the ability to attend events that feature every United States presidential candidate. If attending one of those events isn’t an example of a once in a lifetime experience, then what is?

The Dana Center is another venue unique to St. A’s. They host shows put on by comedy, musical and theatrical groups that are sometimes nationally or even internationally recognizable. They are also the home of the Abbey Players, the college’s official student drama group, who put on a number of phenomenal shows throughout the school year. If theater is something that interests you, maybe you should think about getting involved with the Abbey Players. Even if you do not think it’s your thing, still try to attend at least one show put on by the group. You won’t regret it.

The bottom line is that there are a plethora of amazing opportunities for students here at Saint Anselm College. Seize the moment and take advantage of all that this campus has to offer, because before you know it, your time here will be over, and you don’t want to find yourself looking back at your college experience wishing that you got more out of it.
