McDonough’s Mid-Season NFL Predictions

Yes, I Am Going To Start Doing NFL Game Predictions Halfway Through The Season. No, You Can’t Stop Me.

Week 10:

Ravens (-7.5) @ Dolphins

Whether Tua or Jacoby Brissett is under center for Miami on Thursday night, it won’t make much of a difference. This one shouldn’t be close; it’s on Thursday night for a reason.

Prediction: Ravens 31, Dolphins 13

Browns @ Patriots (-1.5)

This was a game I was honestly surprised not to see in the primetime slate this week. A New England Patriots team that has gained a bit of momentum over the past few weeks faces a Baker Mayfield that is motivated to show that a disgruntled Odell Beckham leaving was a positive for the franchise.

Prediction: Patriots 21, Browns 17

Falcons @ Cowboys (-9.0)

After a horrific effort against Denver last week, I would be shocked to see nothing short of an offensive explosion from this Cowboys squad. The Falcons might be able to make it a shootout, but Dak Prescott and co. are poised for a big day.

Prediction: Cowboys 35, Falcons 24

Saints @ Titans (-3.0)

Oh boy. This seems like it could be a classic New Orleans Saints performance in which they upset a better team halfway through the season. If it happens, look for a Herculean effort from the Saints defense to make up for *gag* Trevor Siemien at quarterback.

Prediction: Saints 17, Titans 10

Jaguars @ Colts (-10.5)

It was a fluke, everyone. The Jaguars probably won’t win another game for the rest of the season. Probably.

Prediction: Colts 28, Jaguars 9

Bills (-13) @ Jets

Mike White produces an astonishing performance that results in a last minute touchdown to cut the deficit to 21. Nothing to see here.

Prediction: Bills 45, Jets 24

Lions @ Steelers (-9.0)

Okay, I know what you’re thinking. This is probably my upset of the week. There’s no way that Dan Campbell leaves Pittsburgh 0-9 this week. The wheels fall off the big yellow machine this weekend, with the issues stemming from Ben Roethlisberger.

Prediction: Lions 17, Steelers 14

Buccaneers (-9.5) @ Washington Football Team

Thomas. Edward. Patrick. Brady.

Prediction: Bucs 34, WFT 17

Panthers @ Cardinals (-10.5)

I love that we will get to see P.J. Walker play this week, but I’m not sure he stands a chance whether Kyler Murray plays or not.

Prediction: Cardinals 31, Panthers 10

Vikings @ Chargers (-2.5)

This game is going to be very close, and it has  appeal as an upset pick for the week. Kirk Cousins has quietly put together another great season, and he should be able to carry it over against a middle of the pack Chargers defense. People seem to forget that Minnesota has taken both the Ravens and Cardinals down to the wire, losing in OT and missing a game winning field goal. Purple Rain in Los Angeles this weekend.

Prediction: Vikings 27, Chargers 20

Eagles @ Broncos (-2.5)

Jalen Hurts is poised for a big week after a couple of quiet performances, albeit against a very strong Mile High defense. I like Philly a lot this week, but I can’t quite place my finger on why.

Prediction: Eagles 27, Broncos 24

Seahawks @ Packers (-3.0)

Oh c’mon. Making a prediction on this game without knowing the injury status of either of the starting QB’s is a shot in the dark. I’m going to assume that they are both playing. In a Russell Wilson return game, give me the Seahawks.

Prediction: Seahawks 34, Packers 31

Chiefs (-2.5) @ Raiders

Things looked ugly last week for the Raiders after a tough week of off-field mishaps. Derek Carr has proven to be a role model in how he has handled all of this controversy, which leads me to say he’ll win this game and stay in the running for winning the AFC West.

Prediction: Raiders 21, Chiefs 17

Rams (-4) @ 49ers

Matthew Stafford will be determined to prove that last week’s loss to a strong Titans team was a fluke. He will assert his MVP frontrunner status once again with a thorough domination of San Francisco. It should be noted that I firmly believe that the Rams are the best team in football.

Predictions: Rams 41, 49ers 17

End of Week Analysis: 6-7  for the week (Lions @ Steelers was a push.)

Not an ideal way to start my season in terms of picking winners would go. One bright spot was correctly picking the score exactly in the Vikings @ Chargers game. Hopefully this optimism can lead me to be more efficient in Week 11.

Week 11:

Patriots (-7) @ Falcons

The Patriots are really showing what they are made of after a big win over Cleveland, but they can’t overlook these Falcons in anticipation of their game against the Titans. Belichick will get what he needs out of his roster on a short week to keep the streak.

Prediction: Patriots 31, Falcons 16

Colts @ Bills (-7)

I love what the Colts are doing this year, and wouldn’t be shocked to see them taking this game down to the wire. Josh Allen has seemed to struggle this year in close games…give me Indy.

Prediction: Colts 27, Bills 24

Ravens (-6) @ Bears

Lamar is going to play angry out of the gates in this one, especially after having a long week off after his embarrassing Thursday night defeat to the lowly Dolphins.

Prediction: Ravens 38, Bears 17

Lions @ Browns (-10)

There’s no way Kevin Stefanski can afford to have the Browns fall under .500 if they want to stay in playoff contention. Whether Baker plays or not, expect a heavy dose of run game to knock off the still winless Lions.

Prediction: Browns 27, Lions 9

Texans @ Titans (-10.5)

Oh man, the Titans have a tough stretch ahead of them after losing Derrick Henry for the year and Julio Jones being placed on IR. Even without their stars, I don’t think this enough for them to lose to Houston.

Prediction: Titans 30, Texans 10

Packers (-2.5) @ Vikings

I LIKE THAT! Just not enough.

Prediction: Packers 28, Vikings 20

Dolphins (-3) @ Jets

What a gross matchup. I’m gonna flip a coin.

Prediction: Jets 21, Dolphins 20

Saints @ Eagles (-1.5)

Jalen Hurts has been carrying my fantasy team, so for my sake let’s hope he can keep it going. On a real note, Philly’s offense has the chance to be among the league’s best if their skill players keep improving.

Prediction: Eagles 24, Saints 21

Football Team @ Panthers (-3.5)

Cam Newton and Ron Rivera face off for the first time in their careers in what has the makings of a great matchup. It will be interesting to see what version of Cam we see, but at least he won’t have to line up across from Chase Young.

Prediction: Panthers 31, Football Team 20

49ers (-6.5) @ Jaguars

The Jaguars stink.

Prediction: 49ers 29, Jaguars 13

 Bengals (-1) @ Raiders

This game is way too close for me to call, but the way the Raiders’ defense handled the Chiefs on Sunday night does not bode well for them playing against one of the best receiving corps in the league.

Prediction: Bengals 38, Raiders 27

Cowboys @ Chiefs (-2.5)

This has the potential to be the biggest display of offensive firepower we have seen since the 2018 game between the Chiefs and Rams. Mahomes looked like himself again on Sunday, but my gut tells me to go with the Cowboys.

Prediction: Cowboys 47, Chiefs 45

Cardinals (-2.5) @ Seahawks

Russell Wilson did not look anything close to himself on Sunday. Another week of practice should remedy his woes enough to make this a game as Seattle fights for their playoff lives.

Prediction: Seahawks 31, Cardinals 28

Steelers @ Chargers (-5)

The Steelers are falling apart, but the Chargers aren’t looking much better. I like Herbert here.

Prediction: Chargers 24, Steelers 16

Giants @ Buccaneers (-11)

I just can’t see Tom losing this game.

Prediction: Bucs 34, Giants 18
