The Saint Anselm softball team is streaking as it picked up its fourth straight win on Saturday, March 10, as it defeated Tiffin University 7-4 and Ursuline college 12-5 in back-to-back games. Freshman pitcher Cortney Fisher took the mound for the Hawks and threw for 8 innings to earn her fifth victory on the year in the 7-4 win over Tiffin. Fisher worked her way out of a jam in the first as Tiffin stranded two runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Fisher would go on to get a strike out and later Junior Jordan O’Connor threw a runner out of at the plate to get out of the inning.

The Hawks began to break out the game in the top of the fourth with three runs. Saint Anselm got help from singles by sophomore outfielder Erin Thompson and junior short stop Jordan O’Connor, who stole 3 bases along the way.

However, this surge by the Hawks was met by a surge by Tiffin as they tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth inning after back-to-back singles and an error made by the Hawks leading to a two-run single by Tiffin. At the top of the eighth, senior catcher Megan Murrell had a base knock to score a run and break the tie to make the score 4-3. Shortly after, sophomore second baseman Madison Borrelli stepped to the plate and would put the final dagger in Tiffin with a 3 run bomb to extend the lead and take the win 7-4.

In The Hawks second game of the weekend taking on Ursuline, freshman pitcher Abbie Murrell earned her first victory throwing four scoreless innings and only surrendering 4 hits in a relief appearance. The bats were out in full effect for the Hawks as they tallied a total of 16 hits. The Hawks also set a program record for the amount of bases stolen as they stole eight bases. Six different players for the Hawks stole a base with sophomore outfielder Maggie Murphy tallying two just as sophomore outfielder Shannon Colson did.

The big three of senior Amanda Bickford, Sophomore Michaela Kane and Thompson tallied 8 of the 16 hits for the Hawks. Bickford went 3-for-5 on the day as well as Kane and Thompson went 4-for-5 combining for 4 RBI and 8 runs. The Hawks started hot as they stole a whopping 6 bases in the first inning. The avalanche would be on the horizon for Ursuline in the top of the fifth inning as the Hawks did major damage scoring 6 runs on 5 hits to take a commanding 10-5 lead. The Hawks would go on to score two late runs in the sixth to take the powerful 12-5 victory.

With both of these victories the Hawks improved their regular season record to an impressive (13-6). The Hawks will return home for their opener in a Conference battle against Franklin Pierce looking for their first conference win in their first conference bout of the season on Wednesday March 21st at 3 PM.
